YAWN, Daniel Scott

BICKNELL — Daniel Scott Yawn, 26, Lawrence, died at 4:56 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, in Jeffersonville, Ky.

He was employed by Fiesta Rides of Corydon.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Nancy and James Sinclair of Indianapolis; paternal grandfather, James Yawn of Huntsville, Ala.; maternal grandmother, Mary Cradick of Bicknell; maternal grandfather, Jack Wiggins of Lakeland, Fla.; two sisters, Anna Thompson of Terre Haute and Amanda Mullins of Hutsonville, Ill.; and three brothers, Todd Hauser of Adelphi, Md., Jason Hauser of Indianapolis, and Ted Clayton of Vincennes.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bicknell First Baptist Church, Washington Street, by the Rev. Ralph McVay. Burial will be in Bicknell Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Arrangements were handled by McClure-Utt Funeral Home, 109 E. Sixth St.

YOCHUM, Darrell F.

BICKNELL — Darrell F. Yochum, 58, Bicknell, passed away at 7:15 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2006, at his home with his family at his side.

He was born in Vincennes, the son of Sebastian and Lucille (Fleck) Yochum.

He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and Vincennes University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received in combat. Upon his return from the Corps, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a postman and financial clerk. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church and held memberships in the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 10, Marine Corps League, Bicknell Country Club, and served as a volunteer firefighter for Vigo Township and the City of Bicknell. He was a member of Indiana Firefighters Association and was a former reserve officer for the Knox County Sheriff’s Department and the Bicknell Police Department. He was a fire investigator and a member of the Eagles Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa (Dupire) Yochum; children and their spouses, Andrea D. Newberg of Petersburg, Angela D. and Bob Welton of Vincennes, Nicole M. Yochum of Indianapolis, Amanda M. and Dave Wampler of Bicknell, and R. Ryan and Beth Yochum of Bicknell. He was blessed by his grandchildren, Jacob and Todd Newberg, Brenden and Kenadee Welton, Trevor and Emma Wampler and Bailey Ann Yochum. His father, Sebastian Yochum of Vincennes; brothers and sister and their spouses, James R. and Diana Yochum of Vincennes, Kenny M. and Linda Yochum of Vincennes, Carol Ann and Rick Grostefon of Winamac, and Thomas and Margaret Yochum of Melissa, Texas, also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille (Fleck) Yochum, in 1986.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Catholic Church, 803 Main St., with the Rev. David Fleck officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Shoals with military honors.

His family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw chapel, 118 Washington St., and from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass Wednesday at the church.

Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Good Samaritan Hospital Lincoln Trail Hospice, St. John Catholic Church Building Fund, Christian Education Foundation, or American Diabetes Association.

YOCHUM, Matilda M.

Matilda M. Yochum, 100, Vincennes, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

She was born July 8, 1904, to Nicholas and Matilda (Steight) Mandabach in Washington.

She had been a resident of Vincennes for over 90 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Yochum, in 1964; two brothers; five sisters; and three grandsons. She is survived by her children, Donald F. Yochum of Vincennes, Rita A. Daugherity of Vincennes, Janice M. Adams of Vincennes, and Marilyn S. Cunningham of Terre Haute; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by the Rev. James Blessinger. Phyllis Mehling will be the organist and John Mineo will be the soloist.

Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

The casketbearers will be her grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Fredrick and Son Funeral Home, 313 Church St., with a rosary at 4 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Parish Improvement Fund.

YOUNG, Anna

Mrs. Anna Young, colored, aged eighty years, passed away Friday afternoon at the Knox county infirmary. The funeral will be conducted from Gardner’s chapel at nine o’clock Sunday morning. Burial will be made in Fairview cemetery.

YOUNG, Leona I.

Leona I. Young, 81, 3801 Old Bruceville Road, Vincennes, died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, at Crestview Convalescent Center in Vincennes.

Born May 15, 1925, in Knox County, she was the daughter of John and Iva (Smith) Brackin.

Leona worked as a cook at the Decker Chapel School and in the housekeeping and laundry departments at Junod’s Nursing Home (now GentleCare of Vincennes).

Her husband, Floyd Young, died on June 17, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents, John and Iva (Smith) Brackin; several brothers; one sister; and two granddaughters.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Fox and her husband, Bobby, of Vincennes; three sons, Mike Young and his wife, Linda, of Monroe City, Bruce Young of Princeton and Randy Young of Decker; six brothers, Frank Brackin of Florida, Homer Brackin of Colorado Springs, Colo., Bob Brackin of Colorado Springs, Wayne Brackin of Spencer, Lawrence Brackin of Florida, and Bill Brackin of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St., by the Rev. Mark Nielson. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

YOUNG, Wallace Edward

Wallace Edward Young, 82, Vincennes, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at the Willow Manor Nursing Home in Vincennes.

He was born Sept. 28, 1924, in Petersburg, to Clive Rexter and Beatrice Eldon Young.

He was a native of Petersburg where he graduated from Petersburg High School in 1944. He then served his country in the United States Army where he had three months of active duty.

Wallace worked at the Uniroyal Tire Company plant located in Daviess County for 26 years, 25 of those years he served as the local president of the Rubberworker's Local No. 337. Each year when a new contract was negotiated, Wallace was their representative. He later worked as a bartender from 1967 to 1975.

His memberships included the First Christian Church of Petersburg, the American Legion Post of Washington, the Eagles Lodge of Vincennes, where he served as the club secretary for a total of 16 years, the Moose Lodge of Petersburg, where he received the Pilgrim degree, which is the highest honor of that fraternity.

Wallace is survived by one brother, Floyd Young of Brownsburg. He is also survived by a nephew, Clive Young of Terre Haute.

Wallace was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home, 505 Main St., with Ron Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Hills Cemetery in Petersburg.

Visitation will be at 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

A Pilgrim memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home by the Moose Lodge of Petersburg.

Military graveside honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post of Washington at the cemetery following the service.

YOUNGHANS, Arthur E. J.

Arthur E. J. Younghans, age 13 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Younghans, of 1134 Broadway, died Friday, January 9.

Funeral services will be held at the house at 2:00 and at St. John's Lutheran church. Eighth and Scott at 2:30. The services will be conducted by Rev. Clausen.

YUNGHANS, Raymond Edward

Raymond Edward Yunghans, 85, Vincennes, entered into eternal rest at 5:38 a.m. Sunday, April 30, 2006, at Willow Manor Nursing Home.

Raymond was born Sept. 6, 1920, in Vincennes, to Albert and Esther (Brackmann) Yunghans. His parents preceded him in death.

On Oct. 13, 1946, he married Roma Bough, who survives. Raymond served in the Air Force during World War II. He was formerly employed as an agent for REA Express in Vincennes.

Raymond was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vincennes, the Vincennes YMCA, and Vincennes Kiwanis Club. He was a former member of the St. John’s Lutheran Men’s Club and was formerly the treasurer of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Raymond was an avid reader.

Raymond is survived by his wife; two sisters, Jean Lawyer of New Whiteland and Doris Yunghans of Vincennes. Also surviving are Norman and Doyle Bough, who were raised by him. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Preceding him in death besides his parents are a brother, Charles, and a niece.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home, 505 Main St. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
