John Robert “Bob” Kaiser, 81, 1909 E. Main St., died at 12:05 a.m. today, April 26, 2006, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Born June 15, 1924, in Vincennes, he was the son of Anthony and Katherine (Baker) Kaiser.
Mr. Kaiser was a 1943 graduate of Lincoln High School. He worked as a shoe cutter for Brown Shoe Company and was a salesman for Westfall Motors. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Margaret (Frisz) Kaiser of Vincennes; his children, Anthony Kaiser of Vincennes, John Robert Kaiser of New Albany, Matthew Kaiser of Vincennes and David Kaiser of Evansville; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Anna Kaiser of Vincennes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Katherine Kaiser; brothers, Adolf, Edmund, Anthony and Paul Kaiser; twin sisters, Marcelline and Lorene Kaiser; and another sister, Evalyn Kaiser.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 803 Main St., by the Rev. David Fleck. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fredrick and Son Funeral Home, 313 Church St., where a wake will be conducted at 4 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Parish Improvement Fund.

COUNTY OFFICIAL IS DEAD
Henry P. Karns Dies of Brights Disease Friday Morning at Home Near Emison -- Was Member of Board of County Commissioners -- Prominent Farmer
Henry P. Karns, aged 67, member of the board of county commissioners died at 6:30 o'clock Friday morning at his residence near Emison, death being due to Bright's disease from which he has been a sufferer for more than a year. He was bedfast for the last five weeks before his death.
The announcement of Mr. Karns' death yesterday morning cast a gloom over courthouse circles where he was popular with his fellow officials. He was one of the most prominent farmers of Busseron township where he owned a fine 200 acre farm. Several years ago he was elected a member of the county council but resigned from office before his term ended. Mr. Karns was a member of the Methodist church and the funeral will probably be held from the Emison M. E. church Sunday morning.Deceased was born in Knoxville, Tenn., but came to Knox county with his father when a boy and has been living here ever since. Mr. Karns leaves five children, Edwin M. Karns, near Emison, Mrs. Grace DeGroyer and Miss Gay Karns, living in South Dakota, Miss Clementine Karns and Rufus H. Karns at home, and a twin brother John Karns, of near Emison.
Mr. Karns was a Republican in politics. His term as a county commissioner would have expired December 31, 1921. According to law a successor will be chosen by the two remaining members of the board and the county auditor, he to serve until the next general election at which time a man will be elected to fill out the unexpired term.
The remaining members of the board are Hamilton Like, Democrat, and E. L. Cory, Republican. Mr. Nicholson, the auditor, is a Republican.

DEATH COME [sic] EARLY THURSDAY
Julius Karschefskey, age 70 years, two months and eight days, died at 3 o’clock Thursday morning at his home , 823 North Tenth street, a complication of ailments having caused death. Mr. Karschefskey operated a grocery store on Upper Eleventh St until about six weeks ago when his health forced him to retire. His wife preceded him in death last January. The deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. William Lovell and Mrs. Courtney Ballard, both of the city, one sister, Mrs. Ed Karschefskey, Vincennes, one brother, Will Karschefskey, of Salem, Ill., and two half brothers, Fred and August Marone, Vincennes.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the St. John's Evangelical church, Fifth and Shelby streets, Rev. J. H. Overbeck officiating.

MRS. MARY KARSCHEFSKY DIED TUESDAY AFTERNOON
Mrs. Mary Louise Karschefsky, aged 66 years, died of heart trouble at her home, 823 North Tenth street, about 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Death came suddenly. She was the wife of Julius Karschefsky. Besides her aged husband she leaves two daughters, Mrs. Courtland Ballard and Mrs. William Levell, one sister and three brothers. Deceased was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran church. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.

DIED WHILE IN FLORIDA
Rev. Thomas J. Keith Passed Away Thursday at St. Petersburg -- Was a Veteran of the Civil War.
Rev. Thomas J. Keith died Thursday morning at St. Petersburg, Florida, where he and Mrs. Keith had been spending the winter months. The remains will be shipped Friday and will arrive in Vincennes Saturday night for burial. Rev. Keith’s home in Vincennes was at 1136 Broadway street.
Rev. Keith was in his seventy-eight [sic] year. He and Mrs. Keith celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last summer. They went to Florida last November expecting to return in the spring. Rev. Keith had enjoyed an active life, his career being spent as a minister in the Baptist church, and for some years he was a missionary in foreign countries. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Fifty-one years ago next August Rev. Keith married Miss Polly A. Hole at Upper Alton, Ill., where she was a student in the Rural Park Female Seminary and he was a member of the graduating class of Shurtleff college. Their married life began at Waugesha, Wisconsin, where Mr. Keith was ordained as a minister of the gospel and assigned as pastor of the Baptist church. There followed a half century of a Ministry that has extended as far east as India and in many cities and churches and schools in America. He gave up his work as a minister only on account of the infirmities of age.
Rev. Keith is a veteran of the Civil war. Before he entered college he gave four and a half years of his life for the saving of his country and the preservation of the institutions of the only free nation of that day, and the delivery of a race from the chains of bondage.

REMAINS WILL ARRIVE HERE THIS EVENING.
The remains of the late Rev. Thomas J. Keith, whose death occurred Thursday at St. Petersburg, Fla., are expected to arrive here this (Saturday) evening at 11:45 o’clock and will be taken to his late home 1136 Broadway street. Funeral arrangements will not be completed until after the arrival of the remains, but it is expected the funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon.

FUNERAL OF REV KEITH HELD MONDAY AFTERNOON
Funeral services over the remains of Rev. Thomas J. Keith, who died Thursday morning at St. Petersburg, Florida, were held at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon at the residence, 1136 Broadway. The services were attended by the G. A. R. and the ministers of the city, Rev. Minor Stevens, pastor of the First Baptist church of which faith Rev. Keith was a minister, officiating. Burial was made in Greenlawn cemetery. Old soldiers who acted as active pall-bearers were Joseph Roseman, Lewis Mallett, George Pennington, Dr. Smith, A. P. DeBruler and C. S. Greemore. The ministers acted as honorary pall-bearers. The body arrived from St. Petersburg late Saturday night and was taken to the Gardner Chapel were [sic] it lay in state all day Sunday.

Sandra S. Kent, 64, Vincennes, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, in Indianapolis.
She was born Feb. 11, 1942, in Vincennes to Floyd W. Burrie and Margaret Lance. She married Gary Kent April 15, 2000.
She worked previously at Vincennes University in the Maintenance Department. She was a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church and the church's Altar Society, and was a lifetime member of the Weight Watchers Club. She also belonged to the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Gary Kent; a son, Todd Godare of Bicknell; a stepson, Kevin Kent of Vincennes; a daughter, Kim Fox of Monroe City; 12 grandchildren, Steven Kent, Cynthia Murphy, Natasha Coomes, Malory Smith, Holli Godare, Emily Godare, Makayla Godare, Megan Godare, Carly Godare, Brody Godare, Dylan Fox and Alan Fox; and two great-grandchildren, Kailyn Kent and Addison Kent.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St., with the Rev. Joseph Swartz officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Vincent's Catholic Church.

WELL KNOWN FARMER DIES
(Special to Vincennes Commercial)
Decker, Ind., February 17 -- Jacob Kimmins, aged about 54 years, died at his farm house near here this morning following an attack of the influenza. Mr. Limmons had apparently recovered from a recent influenza attack and liver trouble complications resulted in death. His wife, two daughters and two sons survive.
The funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon and will be in charge of the Knights of Pythias, of which the deceased was a member.

KINKADE, Thomas Evan

Thomas Evan Kinkade, 62, of Edwardsport, IN, passed away Saturday morning, Feb. 17, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Hospital with his family at his side.
He was born Nov. 26, 1944, in Leitchfield, KY, the son of William Vanco Kinkade and Leatha Decker Kinkade. He served as a Deputy Sheriff for Pima County Arizona and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a member of the National Hot Rod Association and enjoyed Drag Racing. His memberships include the French Club of Bicknell, IN, and the VFW in Petersburg, IN. He attended the Edwardsport First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his sons, Thomas A. Kinkade of Edwardsport, IN, and Timothy Van Kinkade of Norfolk, VA. His caregiver and former wife, JoAnn Smith also survives. He is also survived by two brothers, Ramon Kinkade of Union Lake, MI, and Rodney Kinkade of Benson, AZ, and a sister, Norma Jean Kinkade of Palmyra, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William Vanco Kinkade Jr. and James Ivan Kinkade.
Funeral services will be celebrated Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Edwardsport First Baptist Church with Rev. Ian McMillan and Rev. Robert Harting officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Edwardsport Town Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel in Bicknell.

PASSED AWAY AT GOOD SAMARITAN HOSPITAL
Leota Vern Kinman died at 10:45 o’clock Monday night at the Good Samaritan hospital. She would have been 17 years old next June. Her home is at Hazelton and the remains will be taken to that place Tuesday afternoon. She is survived by her parents, James K. and Margaret Kinman, and by one sister, Jewel, all of Hazleton. The funeral will be held at Hazelton.

The remains of the late Miss Leota Vern Kinman, the sixteen year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Kinman, whose death occurred Monday evening at 10:30 o’clock, following a surgical operation, were taken to Hazleton on Thursday. The deceased is survived by her parents and one sister, Miss Jewell Kinman.

Johnathan Robert Kirk, 80, 1152 State St., died at 10:17 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Born Dec. 7, 1918, in Decker, he was the son of Oscar Roy and Minnie Alice (Catt) Kirk.
Kirk was retired after 29 years with the U.S. Army. He was also a maintenance worker at Vincennes University. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Eagles Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Esther Marie (Gemars) Kirk, whom he married Aug. 29, 1982; four children; six stepchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at3 p.m. Sunday at Brockman & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Tipton officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

MRS. KITTERMAN TAKEN BY DEATH
Monroe City, Ind. Jan. 21. Mrs. Bina Harrell Kitterman, 85, widow of the late John Kitterman, died Thursday night at her home on Wheatland rural route 2, in the Hamlin Chapel neighborhood. She had been ill for some 12 weeks.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Goldie Taylor of Wheatland, and Mrs. Flossie Warner of Decker; a son, Lester Kitterman of Petersburg; four grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
The husband, John W. Kitterman and 2 children, Ruth Alice Kitterman and McKinley Kitterman preceded Mrs. Kitterman in death.
Mrs. Kitterman was born 16 Nov. 1863 in IN. to Moses Harrell and Minerva Sampson. She married John Kitterman in Knox Co., IN. 17 July 1887
The body is at the family residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday from the Hamlin Chapel, with burial in the cemetery adjoining the church. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m., Sunday, and the casket will not be opened after the funeral services.

The funeral of Charles Kleindeinst, who died at Evansville, was held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, at the home of his brother, Joshua Kleindienst, 601 North First street. Rev J. H. Max D. Klepfer, 83, Vincennes, died Sunday, April 15, 2007, at his residence.
Born Jan. 12, 1924, he was the son of Woodie and Ida (Hollis) Klepfer.
Max was a member of the First Christian Church and Vincennes Masonic Lodge No. 1. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked at JC Penney Co. Inc. for 34 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha (Mossman) Klepfer; his parents, Woodie and Ida (Hollis) Klepfer; and his brother, Eugene.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Eileen Klepfer of Fort Wayne; a nephew, Woodie Klepfer of Fort Wayne; and two nieces, Marilyn Rieke and Susan Fleck both of Fort Wayne.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St., by the Rev. Paul Remick. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Welch Diabetes Center or the First Christian Church.

John Klotz Jr., 70, Vincennes, died at 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at his residence.
John was retired from Kroger’s.
He is survived by three sons, John T. Klotz, New York, Dennis R. Klotz, Evansville, and Dale Klotz, Kentucky; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his wife, Esther (Phillips) Klotz and two sisters.
The funeral services were Saturday at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home, 505 Main St.

KNIES, Sister Veronica Marie

FERDINAND — Sister Veronica Marie Knies, 88, Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, died at 1:35 p.m. Friday, April 2,, 1999, in the monastery infirmary.
Born Veronica Mary Herman Knies on March 11, 1911, in Celestine, she was the daughter of Herman and Philomena (Thewes) Knies.
Knies entered the Sisters of St. Benedict in 1927 from St. Celestine Parish. and professed her first vows in 1929 and final vows in 1933. She celebrated 70 years of religious profession. this year.
She taught at several Catholic schools, including Sacred Heart School in Vincennes; St. Benedict, St. Theresa. Holy Rosary, Holy Redeemer and Nativity schools. all in Evansville; Marian Heights Academy in Ferdinand; St. Mary's School in Huntingburg; Holy Cross School in Fort Branch; St. Philip School in Posey County and St. Matthew School in Mount Vernon. She also ministered at Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, and in Clarksville, Rockport, Fulda, Cannelton, St. Thomas, Troy, Dale, Tell City, St. Henry and Floyds Knobs. She retired to the monastery infirmary in 1986.
Surviving are a brother, Leo Knies of Jasper; a sister, Lorine Matheis of Jasper; and her religious community.
A brother is deceased.
Visitation will begin at I p.m. Monday at the monastery. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the monastery chapel. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 1 to 4:30 p.m., when the Resurrection Liturgy will be celebrated. Burial will follow immediately in the monastery cemetery.

KOENIG, Jimmie Steffy "Jim"

Jimmie “Jim” Steffy Koenig, 74, 210 Crestmont Drive, Vincennes, went to be with the Lord at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at his home, with his family present, following an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 31, 1931, in Bicknell, the son of Jacob and Helen (Steffy) Koenig.
Jim served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a truck driver for both I&S and A&H truck lines until his retirement.
On Dec. 27, 1958, he wed Almeda Kemp, and they have shared 47 years together. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Allyson Horrall and her husband, Brad, and Beth Worland and her husband, Pat, both of Vincennes; three granddaughters, Brittany and Karisa Horrall, and Brianna Worland; two brothers, Joe Koenig of Bedford and Danny Koenig of Princeton; four sisters, Helen Martha Hayes of Vincennes, Lois Scott of Bicknell, Anne Shouse of Oakland City and Donna Hinkle of Decker.
Preceding him was one granddaughter, Alaina Worland; and three sisters, Lucille Howe, Betty Neal and Gayle Nolting.
His greatest joy was being with his granddaughters and going to their activities. He also enjoyed being with friends and family, and spending time in Florida. Jim attended the Vincennes First Church of God.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Church of God, 1408 E. St. Clair St. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St.

BICKNELL — Vivian Koenig, 96, Sedalia, Mo., died Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Bothwell Regional Health Campus in Sedalia.
Born Feb. 13, 1911, in rural Vincennes, she was the daughter of William and Tilly (Drieman) Harris.
She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Church where she taught Mothers and Others Sunday school for 38 years. She was very active in Al-Anon throughout her life.
After graduating Decker High School in 1930, she married Paul B. Koenig on Nov. 19, 1930. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, William and Tilly (Drieman) Harris; one daughter, Vera Cooper; two sisters, Carol Sosbe and Helen Bono; a brother, Gib Harris; and a grandchild, Marvin Keown.
Survivors include her children, Mary Ann Frye of Sedalia and Wanda Barnett of Newburgh; three grandchildren, Genan Hanning of Sedalia, Dale Cooper Jr. of Mount Vernon and Chrissy Mayotte of Evansville; five great-grandchildren, Jessica Keown, Cody Hanning, Jonathan Hanning, Kyle Hanning and Ashley Mayotte; and a great-great-grandchild, Andrew Keown.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel Church, 13673 E. Ind. 58, Edwardsport. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Arrangements were handled by McClure-Utt Funeral Home, 109 E. Sixth St.

KOTTER, Lynette

Lynnette (Snapp) Kotter a Vincennes resident for 52 years, died Thursday morning, March 22, 2007, at her home. Lynn went to be with her Savior this day.
Lynn was born on Dec. 10, 1954, to Leland and Patricia (Mominee) Snapp.
Lynn and Ron Kotter were married on Feb. 15, 1974, in Vincennes. Lynn retired in 2006 from the Social Security Administration where she worked for 33 years. Lynn's church family is the First Church of God in Vincennes, where she has been active in the nursery, as well as a Sunday school teacher and youth leader. Lynn also served on several boards and committees at the church, and she was active in the Walk to Emmaus.
Lynn is survived by her husband of 33 years, Ron Kotter, Vincennes; daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Walker Mullin, Cloverdale; daughter, Amy Kotter, Vincennes; her one and only grandson, Wyatt Mullin, Cloverdale; her parents, Leland and Patricia Snapp, Vincennes; one sister, Pam Black, Butler, Pa.; two brothers, Jerald Snapp, Vincennes and Brad Snapp, Owensboro, Ky.; as well as several nieces and nephews. Lynn was also supported by many dear friends, including her two best friends, Gaye Biehl and Randi Cunningham. Lynn fought hard against breast cancer for eight years, and we will remember her fighting spirit in the days to come. She is gone but not forgotten, and her spirit and thirst for life will live on in all of our hearts.
