MOURNING SON FALLS AND BREAKS LEG

While mourning the loss of her son Wesely [sic], Mrs. Robert Hedges, today stepped on a walnut and fell breaking two bones of her ankle and dislocating another. Dr. Gardner was called to the home, and the woman was brought in a [sic] ambulance to the doctor's office.

The mother has mourned without consolation for the loss of the son who was so grievously broken in the mine and died after a game fight for his life. While under the anaesthetic she called repeatedly for “Wesley,” calling loudly and lingerlingly [sic], as one calling to some one [sic] in the far pasture to come to dinner -- as one expecting an answer from a far, far, distance -- Bicknell News.

LEVI HEDRICK IS FOUND DEAD ON BICKNELL-WHEATLAND ROAD

Levi HEDRICK, Bicknell man, aged about seventy years, was found dead about eleven o'clock Thursday morning by passersbys on the Bicknell-Wheatland pavement, a few hundred yards from Road 50.

Mr. HEDRICK has been employed on a farm by Robert McKINLEY, of near Wheatland, and this morning was hauling fertilizer from Wheatland to the McKINLEY farm. Turning off of Road 50 onto the Bicknell-Wheatland pavement, he had reached a point about half way up the hill when apparently something went wrong with one of the wheels on the wagon. A piece of wood near-by showed that he had been pounding on the wagon tire.

Evidently he had dropped dead, for the body had pitched forward and was lying under the feet of the mule team he had been driving.

Passerbys stopped and called J. Frank LEMEN, Bicknell undertaker, and also notified Dr. SMALL, county coroner.

Mr. HEDRICK was married and had several grown children. He was a resident of Ohio Street, having lived in Bicknell for a number of years.

DEATH OF MRS. A. W. HEINEKAMP

Occurred at 5:30 Tuesday Morning -- Deceased Was Born Jan. 24, 1846 In Prussia, Coming to America at Age of Seven.

On Tuesday morning at 5:30 o’clock at the family residence, 720 North Fourth street, Mrs. August W Heinekamp passed on to eternal life at the age of seventy-four years. The immediate family, the physician and a close friend were at the bedside when her spirit took its flight.

Every comfort and all that the love of the devoted family could do was done to relieve the suffering during her illness of the past two months. Mrs. Heinekamp was the last member of the Schaffer family. She was Miss Louise Shaffer, a native of Prussia, where she was born January 24, 1846. At seven years of age, Mrs. Heinekamp came to this country with her parents. When twenty-one years old, she was married to August Heinekamp, who survives and is in excellent health at the age of seventy-nine years.

The surviving children are: Misses Lydia, Laura and Louise and Messrs. William and Otto P. Heinekamp and grand children, Theodore and Ruth, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Heinekamp and Ralph Knox Heinekamp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Heinekamp all of this city.

Mrs. Heinekamp was the possessor of a beautiful and cheerful spirit, a truly devoted wife and noble mother who gave to her home and family thoughtful care, tender love and wise service.

Mr. and Mrs. August Heinekamp were charter members of the Evangelical St John's church, of which Rev. J. H. Overbeck is the pastor.

In all church activities, Mrs. Heinekamp was most loyal and helpful and the congregation will sadly miss her gentle, spiritual helpfulness in all the services of the church and Ladies’ Aid Society.

Her life fully exemplified the following words of the poet:

“If I can ease one life the aching
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin,
Unto his nest again,
I have not lived in vain.”

Nor has she lived in vain, for her good works live after her.

The funeral services will be held at the family residence on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. The family desire that no flowers be sent in compliance with the request of the deceased. All through Mrs. Heinekamp’s sickness, her room was made cheerful with flowers from her many friends and on the last day and evening she spoke of their beauty and fragrance and said she was glad that she had the flowers while living.

Curtis, Messrs. Claude L. Bundy and William Teschner, with Prof. John St. John, as accompanist, sang, “Asleep In Jesus,” Sweet Peace the Gift of God's Love,” and Mr. Bundy sang the solo, “[illegible] As A Bird.” Interment was made in Fairview cemetery.

THREE YOUTHS KILLED AS CAR LEAVES ROAD

Three Vincennes youths were fatally injured Thursday in a one-car crash on IL. 33, about four miles north of the junction of old U.S. 50 at Westport. The car, out of control, struck a tree.

Victims of the wreck were Miss Clarisse Hendricks, 18, of 506 South Seventh, Miss Jacquelyn Kay Pritchard, 18, of 604 South Tenth, and George G. Ivers, 21, of Route 5.

Illinois state trooper Frank Groves said the accident occurred about 7:50 p.m., and that Ivers and Miss Hendricks were killed instantly.

Groves said Ivers was the driver of the convertible, and that the girls were riding in the front seat. He said the car was going south, and that the three earlier had been visiting in Russellville, IL.

Ivers lost control of the car and it left the pavement to the right shoulder. It traveled some 150 feet off the road before hitting a tree head-on, Groves said.

The impact threw Ivers and Miss Hendricks from the car, and Miss Pritchard was thrown into the rear seat, Groves said. Miss Pritchard was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where she died of her injuries at 9:59 p.m.

Groves said the car apparently was traveling at a high rate of speed, and that it was totally wrecked.

She was a 1965 graduate of Lincoln High School.

The body is at Brockman funeral home, where friends may call after 6 p.m., Saturday, and where the funeral will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery.

Heuring.

Concerning the death of Mrs. Georgia Shugart Heuring, wife of Editor Alden J. Heuring of the Winslow Dispatch, and sister of Mrs. C. C. Winkler, of this city, the Petersburg Press prints the following.

The death of Georgia Shugert, wife of editor Alden J. eHuring [sic], of The Windsor Dispatch occurred at the family home in Winslow at three o’clock last Friday afternoon. Mrs. Heuring had been in bad health for a long time and her death was not unexpected by family and friends. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. M. G. Buchannon, assitsed [sic] by the Rev. E. M. Hale, at the home Sunday afternoon and internment was made at Oak Hill cemetery, Winslow.

Mrs. Heuring was born in Vincennes, Ind., July 11, 1879, and was 49 years, 8 months and 1 day old at the time of her death. Her entire life was spent in Vincennes up to the time of her marriage to Mr. Heuring which occurred in October, 1899, since which she had lived at Winslow.

Immediately upon coming to Winslow Mrs. Heuring took front rank among the ladies of that town in societal matters and also in all movements inaugurated by ladies there for the moral and intellectual Improvement of the town. She was charmingly democratic in manner and easily won the esteem and good will of all who met her. She also devoted herself most assiduously to the interests with which her husband was connected, was familiar with his business affairs, was wise and conservative in counsel and soon made herself almost indispensable in the conduct of the various enterprises with which he was connected. She not only managed her household admirably but familiarized herself with the printing business in all its various complexities until her husband could leave it all in her hands, when called away, with the assurance that it would be as carefully and is economically managed as were he there in person. She possessed a good general and business education and was confident to meet every requirement, however technical of the country printing and publishing business.

Together, Mr. and Mrs. Heuring had overcome the difficulties that surround the country publishing business and could look to the future with confidence. It is especially distressing to her friends that she should have been called so young and when life offered so much. She is survived by her husband, one son, Frank, and one sister, Mrs. C. C. Winkler, of Vincennes.

Miss Clara Honer Dies.

A telegram was received about 5 o’clock Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Lena Heitz, 711 North Sixth street, that Miss Clara Honer, sister of Miss Laura Honer, whose death on Sunday evening at LaFayette, was such a shock to her many friends here, had passed away at her home in LaFayette. It will be remembered that the late Miss Laura, was called to nurse her sister Miss Clara and was thought that the latter was on the road to recovery from her attack. The death of her devoted sister, Miss Laura, doubtless caused a relapse to Miss Clara, and only two days after her sister's demise she, too, was called home.

DEATH DUE TO PNEUMONIA

Miss Laura Honer, of the Millinery Firm of Heitz & Honer Dies After a Brief Illness at Lafayette -- Funeral to Be Held Wednesday.

Miss Laura Honer of the firm of Heitz & Honer, passed away Sunday evening at 11 o’clock at her home in Lafayette, after a short illness of pneumonia. Miss Honer had gone before Christmas to be with her mother who had broken her arm and was making arrangements to return this week when her sister, Miss Clara, became ill. She had nursed her sister through the crisis of her illness, when she herself took sick.

During the few years that Miss Honer had been in business here she had endeared herself to every one of the many who came in contact with her, and will always be remembered for her cheerfulness and sweet personality. She resided with Mrs. George Heitz and Miss Fanny Heitz on North Sixth street, and her loss is mourned by them as if she had been one of their own for seldom is the personal attachment and affection between business partners as strong as was the devotion of Miss Heitz and Miss Honer. There is no one in the downtown business circles that would be missed more than will Miss Honer. The funeral will be Wednesday and Miss Heitz will leave for Lafayette today.
