SILVER ISLAND

In the 2013 (p 53) History of Fountain County, Indiana it says the Silverwood school existed from 1830-1926, first being in settler's homes, then in a double log cabin built on property near the town. Although it's not sure who "Mrs. Hobart" is, I would guess this is Cyrene Jenne Hobart and she was the first teacher (in her home) with 8 children, totalling $1 a day. You can read quite a bit about this school in Pat Bush's book or the above mentioned new history (LOVE IT). kbz
