GERMANY
Jackson Township - this school was one mile away from the Montgomery County line on what is State Road 234. It is typically named because of the many German families in the area. It dates back to 1874 deeded for school property by Joseph Myers and classes were discontinued in 1916. There is a picture of the nifty school that had an air cupola and plenty of windows for fresh air. Nice article on p 76 of the 2013 History of Fountain County, Indiana. "Fresh air and exercise seemed to be part of the curriculum .. the Germans were noted for their hardiness." Note: I had never heard of this school and enjoyed the short, but enlightening article. - kbz
