Business Directory – The reputation of SC Scott, the grocer in Opera House block, north Washington Street is enviable to his contemporaries not only for the quality of goods handled, but for the correct methods that have always been observed in the management of his store.  In 1850 he embarked with his father in the dry goods business.  Three years later his father died and until 1858 he was with the firm of Galey & Scott.  In 1872 he began clerking for AF Ramsey & in 1886 bought out the business of which he is now proprietor. The stock comprises the finest merchandize (sic) to be found in the market.  He has an established reputation for keeping extra good butter and his store is headquarters for farmers who have found it the best place to trade.  He offers no inducements but fair dealings and does not put out any “catch penny” rackets to induce people to buy.  It’s his goods that talk! - kbz
