Louis C. DARST popular young principal of the Rushville junior-senior high school will replace Clarence E. Robbins as principal of Crawfordsville Senior HS. Mr. Robbins resigned Monday to remain in his present position as assistant director of research for the Indiana State Teachers Association. Principal Darst will report for duty Wednesday morning. Mr. Robbins, who appeared in person before a special meeting of the local school board Monday morning emphasized his regret that purely personal problems made it impossible for him to change positions at this time. His resignation stated "I wish it a matter of record that my decision in this situation is totally unrelated to the position here, to your fine superintendent or to the State Teachers' Association." Mr. Darst was the other of the two finalists who survived a series of interviews last month. By thorough study, screening and interviews, more than 50 applicants were narrowed to 15, nine and finally two men who returned for the final conference. Prior to his administrative experience in Rushville, Mr. Darst had served as a teacher and guidance director there for six years. He also served 4 years in the armed forces from 1942 to 1946. Mr. Darst received his AB Degree form Ball State Teacher's College in 1935 and began his teaching career the following fall in Royerton HS near Muncie. He later received his Master's in school administration from Indiana University. He has also had additional graduate work at Purdue and University of Michigan. The new principal is 37. He and Mrs. Darst hold membership in the Methodist and Christian Churches. They have two children, Richard 5, and Martha Jo, 2. The family will move to Crawfordsville immediately.
