WELLMAN, George, described as "Treasurer, Wabash County, in 1895, when he wrote a letter describing a trip back to Belmont County, Ohio, "where I was born and where I first went to school. .." George was the son of Samuel WELLMAN and Jane COFFEE, and grandson of Rudolph WELLMAN and Agnes ARCHER. He was born in 1830. Who did George marry, and who and where are his descendants?

There were five other children of Samuel and Jane: Moses, b. 1831; Elizabeth, b 1834; Mary, b. 1836; John, b. 1838; Hannah, b.1841. All of these people were descendants of Rudolph WELLMAN and Agnes ARCHER of Belmont Co OH. Their daughter, Mary, married James STEWART, and old records hint that they also settled in Indiana; the families were briefly reunited during the state fair in Wabash County in 1881. Can George's position as Wabash county treasurer be verified? What happened to these Wellmans in Indiana?

Looking for information on the descendants of Jacob BRYAN(T) (Sr.) who was born 5/30/1783 in N.C. He married Nancy FREEMAN in 1805 in N.C. They had ten children, all born in NC. Theophilus, Mary, Rebecca, Norman, Sophia, Lewis, Jacob Jr., Willis, Margaret, and "Little Patty". He moved his family to the Jefferson Co. Indiana area in the 1830's and then to the Roann/Wabash area in the 1840's, purchasing land here, as did his children, Jacob Jr. and Willis Bryan. Jacob Sr. was buried here in the Gamble Cemetery, along with other family members. I was able to trace son Willis up to the 1910-1920 census here. Willis and Letitia Bryan sold land to the Shequoit Lodge I.O.O.F., Roann, No.365 in April 26, 1888 for what is now known as the Roann Community Cemetery. Also researching:

Some of my Mowrer ancestors came to Wabash Co., Ind. about 1847 from Wayne Co., Ohio. Christian MAURER/MOWRER was the oldest, and he came with some sons and one or more daugthers. One daugther, Catherine Maurer, born about 1797 in Pennsylvania, married Adam REGER, almost certainly in what is now Snyder Co., Pa. My Mowrers have mostly moved away from Wabash Co., but I'm very interested in contacting REGER/RAGER descendants, since they may have information about their origins and their interaction with my Maurers/Mowrers. I'd also like to contact people named SIGNS still living in the North Manchester area, since Cora Mowrer Signs, died 1940s, was one of the main sources for a history of my Maurer/Mowrer family that was done in the 1940s by H.L. Mowrer (prob. not a relation of mine). I suspect my Maurers originally came from Canton Bern or Canton Zurich, Switzerland, though they may have lived in Alsace or the Palatinate of Germany for some years before coming to Pesnnsylvania about 1765. I have much more information about Mowrers in Wabash Co.

I would like to post a query re Maria (Mary) SCHILLING b. about 1824, Germany; and her two sons, John Conrad CULP/KOLB b. 1843 and Jonathan b. 1847, Germany. Maria and her sons immigrated to New York in 1855 from southern Germany enroute to Indiana where they had relatives and friends in Wabash and Huntington Counties. Maria died in port at Castle Garden Island (now Ellis Island). A relative from Indiana (believed to be her sister, Barbara SCHENKEL YOUNG) went to New York and returned the children to Huntington and Wabash Counties, IN. John Conrad Culp farmed at Lagro Twp., then volunteered for service in the 18th Regiment of Indiana, Company F, where he served until the end of the Civil War. He returned to Wabash, Lagro Twp. and farmed until 1870 when he removed to Texas. He married Margaret BOON, daughter of Samuel Boon. She died in 1870 in Madison Co., IN. Names of the persons the CULP/KOLB children associated with were: KETTERING, SCHENKEL, WEBER, HOWENSTEIN, SLUSSER, YOUNG and BOON. There may have been other families also. Am grateful for any information and/or "leads". Thanks in advance.
