I am quering information on the JEFFREY surname. Lewis Johnson JEFFREY and his wife Rebecca WILSON were listed in the 1840 census. Betweeen 1840 and 1860 several names have appeared in Fayette Co. Surely they probably were all related. Lewis was born in New York and Rebecca was born in Ohio. Lewis moved to Noble Twp, Wabash Co prior to 1850 and on to Quincy, IA. I assume John is a brother, who moved to Noble prior to 1870. Allen a blacksmith also probably a brother was already in Adams Co, IA. Lewis had several children born in Fayette County. John, 1842, William 1844, James my great great grandfather born in April 1846, and Alexander in 1848. Alexander may have been born in Wabash Co or Fayette Co. George M. and Marcelia were born in Wabash Co.(probably) In 1860, in Iowa Lewis had Parmita, Jennie and Addie.
