Schaefer Funeral Home of Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana opened its
doors around 1872 and continued doing business in Evansville for 100 years.
The name changed as the words "and Son" were added when son, Edward joined
his father in business in 1900. The business expanded and grew at it's
location on lower 5th Street. The business remained solely in the family
until it became Schaefer Dorsey Funeral Home as announced in the Evansville
Courier on 1 January 1970 the last funeral I find announced from that
business was published in the Evansville Courier
11 February 1974.
In September 2010 I copied Schaefer Funeral Home Evansville 13 July 1902 - 25 January 1904 courtesy of Kay Lant who was in possession of the Schaefer Funeral Home books. The Schaefer Funeral Home collection is now in the possession of Boone Funeral Home.
