About half way between Fincastle and Carpentersville stands the old building known as the Hale School House.  Named for Russell Hale who shared one corner of his farm for this purpose. It was a small room, but often had as many as 40 pupils.  Among them were the Hannas, Shueys, Watsons.Conkright,   Edwards, Brothers and Turners,  Some of the early teachers were Nannie Patton, Nellie Rich, Susie Gardner & Iola GUilliams. Since it was abandoned for school purposes, the old  
This called for an addition teacher.  Miss Maggie DeMott who was the daughter of Dr. John B. DeMott of Greencastle was employed to teach the advanced classes, and Miss Bettie Shannon for the primary room. Some of the early teachers were Nannie Patton, Nellie Rich, Susan Gardner and Iola Guilliams.  Since it was abandoned the building has been used as a corn crib and tool shed for a nearby farmer _____.  Dear old school house.

Some of the families who attended school there over the course of years were the Cunninghams, Stultzes, Scotts, Obenchains and Hartmans___

Hale School – The following are the names of the pupils who were neither absent nor tardy for the term beginning Sept 12 and closing March 8: Maggie Hanna; Court Gillen; Clyde Dodd; Clyde Miller; Brody Dodd; Frank Hanna; Retta Dodd and Mabel Hanna. The graduates are Harvey Young and Emma Dodd. Bettie Akers, Teacher
