Information from Orpha Turner Brothers (via his granddaughter, DeAntha Wright - thanks sooo much)
This school house is situated about a mile NE of Fincastle on land donated by Jordan Grider, who was a lifetime citizens of that community and the grandfather of Neal and Raymond Grider well known bankers of Indianapolis and Great Grandfather of Mrs. Carrie Miller, present Putnam County recorder. In the beginning this one room building served the offspring of the Grider, John Turner, Sam Gardners, Ben Thompson, Robert Bridges and many others. Some of the teachers during this period were Lee Neff, John Quilliams, and Jacob Lasher. By the year 1880 the school had become so crowded it was necessary to add another room, which was used for the primary grades. About the most popular recreation at recess was walking the high board fence around the yard., also football and drop the handkerchipe. Grider School House was the seat of many social events, such as Spelling matches, Literary Society and Box sup0pers. The old building has been kept in fairly good repair and is serving as a home at the present time.
