Budd, Robert Webb

Robert W Budd was born in Elizabethtown, Indiana on March 18, 1826. He became a resident of Pulaski County in March of 1845 and lived here until his death at the age of 87. He settled in two log cabins west of the present town of Pulaski, very close to the Tippecanoe River. In 1850 he was married to Miss Anna McNutt of the Fall Creek area of Hamilton County, Indiana. She died in 1857. Three children were born; Albert, Ulva, and Evelyn. Robert then married Mrs. Mary Poole of Springfield, Ohio. She passed away in 1887. A year later he married Martha A White. Schuyler was born to them.

During the Civil War he was a member of The 87th Indiana Regiment, where his company was forced into the hottest of the fight. Here he was wounded five times and was left on the field to be taken prisoner by the enemy and placed in the brutal Anderson Prison. He was, however, exchanged and returned to the Union lines and was privileged to join General Sherman in the march to the Sea.
