Parke County Veterans - The War of 1812

There are 2 veterans of the War of 1812 buried in Parke County:

- Henry Nevins in the New Discovery Cemetery

- George Nevins in the Nevins Cemetery.     (Died being struck by lightening while plowing his fields.)

Both served with Kentucky regiments under Gen. Wm. Henry Harrison. Henry was captured by Tecumseh and given to Gen. Burgoyne (British), then sent to  Canada as a POW where he escaped, went to NY where his father grew up, then back to Jessamine Co., KY. Later relocated to Vigo and then Parke Co., IN.

Aaron Rawlings b. 1780 KY; d.10 June 1864 in Parke County. He was married to Rebecca Smith (1787-1846) Both are buried in the Rawlings Cemetery, Washington Township, Parke County Indiana.

Aaron was a first Sergeant in Captain Solomon Brandenburg's Company, Third Regiment, KY detached Militia, War of 1812.Research was done by Beverly R. Allan. The information for this listing was transcribed by Don Huffman. Both of us are Rawlings descendants.

I have the records of Solomon Simmons buried in the Simmons Cemetery south of Rockville.  He served War of 1812 as a Corporal in Capt. Daniel Heaton's Company of Riflemen, 1 Reg't Ohio Militia.
