QUINLAN, Cornelius, saloonkeeper, Rockville, was born in the county of Tipperary, Ireland March 17, 1849. His parents, John and Winifred (RYAN) Quinlan, immigrated to America in 1850 and settled in Davis (sic -- assume this is Daviess) County, Indiana. His father died when he was about 6 years old. In 1863 he went to Terre Haute to live and for several years worked in the rolling mill and in the foundry, molding car wheels. From 1873 to 1876 he was at Dana, Vermillion County, keeping saloon; returning to Terre Haute, he again went into the shops to work in which he had before been employed. IN April 1879 he located in Rockville, in his present business. His mother died at Terre Haute December26, 1873. Mr. Quinlan has a brother, James living at Montezuma; also a stepbrother and a sister, Mrs. James RIORDAN, a brother Michael at the Watering Cottage near Terre Haute keeping a general country store, two sisters in Terre Haute, Mrs. Thomas HEENAN and Mrs. John CONNELLEY and a stepsister, Winifred Connelley. Mr. Quinlan belongs to the Ancient Order of Hibernians, having his membership at Terre Haute. He is a Catholic and a Democrat.
