School newspaper—In 1927, they published a school newspaper called “The Hi-Flyer.” Nobody seems to know how long they published it.
School Nickname—Nobody seems to know. They probably chose school colors first and wanted a nickname to indicate that the teams would fly high, hence the Purple Flyers.
