– MD White, Esquire the Republican candidate for State Senator will address his fellow citizens of Scott Township, at the Lapland School House on Friday the 24th of August instead of Thursday 23rd as previously announced. Remember this change – Republicans – Friday the 24th inst at 2 o’clock p.m Let him have a full turn out of the township.

The Republicans of Scott Township will meet in convention at Lapland School House Wednesday October 7, at 2 o’clock p.m. to select a candidate for Trustee and nominate other township officers. A full attendance is desired.

The Lapland School teacher dismissed his school last Tuesday and started to the World’s Fair Wednesday to be gone the rest of the week.

Thirty pupils took the county examination at the Lapland School House Saturday.

Out of those who tried the second county examination, held at Lapland School House, six were successful, which makes 14 graduates from Scott Township.  They are: Lillian Byrd, Fannie Smith, Lizzie McClain, Vinnia Hostetter, Nellie Long, Fred Martin, Charley Martin, Ard Buser, Samuel Gott, Wallace Quinley, Charley Martin, Bert Frame, Arthur Gott and Harry Thompson. There is still another examination to be held at Crawfordsville which some are going to take.

Edgar Rice will represent the North Union Society in a joint discussion with Bert Connelly, who will represent the Lapland Society on the question: “Resolved, that the expansion policy followed by the administration is favorable to the best interests of Republican institutions.”  North Union has the affirmative, Lapland the negative. Debate to take place at the Lapland School House, Saturday night, March 10. Everybody invited.

The Prohibitionists of Scott Township will meet in mass convention at Lapland School House on Saturday Aug 18 at 2 p.m. for the purpose of nominating a township ticket. After the nomination the convention will be addressed by GT Stump and JJ Darter, both of Crawfordsville; also by Brother JC Burkhart of Indianapolis. Everybody is invited with a special invitation extended to the ladies. .. John D. Smith, Chairman (note: rather ironic since the ladies couldn’t vote yet)

“Lapland” – The second township examination was held at Lapland School House last Saturday.  Carl James, of Fairview School, who is just getting over a several case of mumps, visited Lapland School Tuesday.
