Voorhees - Charles Stewart

NEED TO WRITE MORE ON THIS FELLOW AND HIS FATHER - someone remind me but for now, here's a new Who's Whoer for us

Charles Stewart Voorhees was the son of the famed Daniel Woolsey Voorhees and was born in Covington on June 4, 1853.  Although he attended Wabash, he graduated from Georgetown College in Washington DC June 26, 1873 at age 20 then studied law, being admitted to the bar in 1875.

He went to Terre Haute where he practice for a time but the West called him and in 1882 he went to Colfax, Whitman County in Washington Territory.  Quickly, he was elected Prosecuting Attorney for that county from 1882-1885.

As a Democrat he was elected to the 49th and 50th congress serving four years to 1889.  He was instrumental in passing a bill to take Washington into the statehood which happened in November of ‘89.

He continued his law office but passed away fairly young the day after Christmas in 1909 after having moved to Spokane to practice law at this point.  Think 'ol Dan would have been proud of him.
