FAIRCHILD, Hiram Orlando

Hiram Orlando Fairchild was born Aug 14, 1845 in the little town of Newtown, in our Fountain County, Indiana.  He was one of seven children born to Rev. John and Lorinda Bigelow Fairchild.  Presbyterian minister, John preached at Marinette, Wisconsin from 1863-1885 when he passed away.  H.O. as he was often called married Emma Haugh at Crawfordsville on Nov 21, 18871 – they had six of their own, although two passed in childhood.  (Wikipedia).  H.O. attended Wabash and went forth and prospered in the political and golfing fields.  Spending much of his life in Wisconsin he was the 34th Speaker of the Wisconsin State Assembly and served as the very first DA of Marinette County (following six more times).  In 1895, he with three others (HO the senior partner) formed a partnership.  After having been sick for quite some time, he passed away Oct 14, 1925 and was referred to as “the dean of the Brown County Bar,” as well as the “dean of the Wisconsin gloving community.”
