(partial) DIARY OF EDNA "Blanche" BANTA MORGAN 1942-46

March 20, 1942 -- Cloudy in a.m. - clearing in p.m. Windy but warm - went with Corta Dooley to Saillor's ? (Silons ?) funeral. Elsie worked at nite.

March 20, 1943 -- Cold and frosty ground froze. B. hauled in fodder - Marys cleaned up house and B&M went to Edna's at nite.

March 20, 1944 -- Ethel worked. Ate dinner with Lucy Davis ate supper with Jesse & Effie McClure

March 20, 1945 -- Tuesday - Still cloudy & rainy. Feeling tuff - went to see Dr. in p.m. Renewed ? a little

March 20, 1946 -- Wednesday - find day -- Maryt washed B sowed clover seeds. Felt tuff in a.m. but much better in p.m.


March 21, 1942 -- Saturday - Rained in nite - clearning about noon - cleaned-up house. Went to see Hazel Smith (this is Karen Bazzani Zach's grandmother - great lady). Snowed and rained all at same time in p.m.

March 21, 1943 -- Sunday -- Fair and cold wind just a little springy grounds froze hard with frost

March 21, 1944 - Snow about 7 o'clock in p.m. - Went to Sale at Pyles. Our stuff sold well. Ate supper with Lee & Eunice.

March 21, 1945 - Wednesday Still rainy but lots cooler. A few snow flakes in air. M-)A & I went to see Miller baby. Got chain letters from Dollie C.

March 21, 1945 - Thursday -- Much cooler with lite front. Fish family good - M&&R moved strawberries & sprayed fruit trees. Mhilfred Mary M. - Papaw B & M worst ? ? ? (time tonite ?)

March 22, 1942 - Sunday - Clear & cold. High wind. Came home in p.m. Riss and Mabel here at night all going to a show.

Monday March 22, 1943 - Mary washed - I kept baby and got dinner - Mary worked up at Blairs home.

March 22, 1944 - Wednesday - Mild but cloudy. E & I at ANnie Cannons for dinner. Settled up & came up to Waveland in evening.

March 22, 1945 -- Thurs - Clear & cold. Temp 32 in washing today. A fine, spring day - M. done ourst of morning.

March 22, 1946 --Friday - Clear and warm south wind - M&K cleaning out new house. Fred ? just fair - went to Edna at nite.

March 23, 1942 - Monday - clear & frosty - feel tuff. Ethel washed in p.m. Nothing happened.

March 23, 1943 - Tuesday -- cool in a.m. - Snowed some in p.m. Mary washed up wardrobe. Shutz here at ?. They're at Waveland. Rainey not cleared-off in p.m. Hazel Smith came in p.m. - she got a letter frm Kenneth & he is in England. . Free. Pretty clodly & warm temperature. B sold calves & a hog.

March 23, 1944 - All went to Cripes at nite - feel awful tuff

March 23, 1946 -- Rainy not very cool. M - cleaned up house oife and B went to sale in PM at Rockville. They went to Ednas at nite.

March 26, 1942 -- Thursday - Cooler & rained all day. Feel tuff - Ethel went to B'dale to help folks move Lucy over. Aunt Addie Swaim died -

March 26, 1943 - Warm spring day. Mrs. B went to educd. B - picked up corn all day. Mary cleaned yard, did cooking and kept Ann.

March 26, 1944 -- Monday - Cold and dank. Grass up . M&D came down. Ethel Millers Margaret & Patti here.

March 26, 1945 -- Warm & rainy. Feel some better. M - washed - made some garden. B & P & PA went to Farm B meeting at nite.

March 26, 1946 -- Tuesday - Rainy in a.m. Warm. B&M went to District for the day. Mrs. D sick with pneumonia. I made some curtains and sewed on PA arrivall. (?). Clear off in pm. was warm.

March 27, 1942 - Friday - Rain with snow flurries. K- hauled off trash. Stayed in store at nite.

March 27, 1943 -- Sat - mild in a.m. colder in pm. Cleaned up house - M-washed M&B went to Edna at nite.

March 27, 1944 - Rainy & cold all day. Hazel Smith and I went to C'ville . Gone all day. Awful tired at nite. Baba washed all nite.

March 27, 1945. Tuesday - fine spring day a little windy. MB & P A went to Lafayette to get chix. Home by 1 o'clock. Didn't feel so good all da - Fair finished sewing oats.

March 27, 1946 -- Awful foggy and warm temp 50. M- painting in D room & wash my p.m. M & PR went to Edna at nite awful tired.

April 15, 1942 -- Wed - Partly cloudy in a.m. - clear at noon - E. washed windows. I worked in yard almost too much.

Aprl 15, 1943 - Mary painted some on kitchen. Junior Coble ? (Doble ? ) here for dinner - cold.

April 15, 1944 - Party Cloudy (can't read rest)

April 15, 1945 -- Rainy - cold cloudy all day - B went mushrooming in p.m. Found some in a.m. PA sick all day.

April 15, 1946 - Monday - Rainy and cold, B & M went - sold sow & cow. I sewed all day. Went to see Wells baby at nite.

April 16, 1942 - Fine day. Warm no fire went to Missionary Meeting not feeling so good.

April 16, 1943 - Cold. Mary washedawful high had 13 familys ? out (can't read rest

April 16, 1944 - Sunday - cooler and cloudy - can't read rest

April 16, 1945 - Monday - Windy and warm all day. Rain storm about noon. PA came better in p.m. Didn't do much all day.

April 16, 1946 -- Tuesday - clear and cold - Frost - Temp 52. B&M went to Cec Morgans Funeral at C'ville. I sewed hard all day. Awful tired at night. B&M took paper off L. room.

Note: Edna Blanche Banta Morgan was born in Parke County on 26 Jun 1882, the daughter of William Charles Banta and Margaret A. Payton. She passed away 21 March 1952 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, Indiana. Here is a picture of the family just about 8 or 9 years before she wrote her diaries. Wish I had the rest of 'em :(
