Bolton - John David
Another fellow who was born and partially raised in Fountain County was John David Bolton, but like so many wonderful folks, moved on west. Born August 17, 1846, he was the son of Gideon and Elizabeth Mahew Bolton Gideon followed his son west, and assumed his mother did as well but not sure on that one.
While young and still living in Fountain County, John David Bolton joined the Christian Church at Covington and it proves a good fellow having stayed with that religion and following it with his all until his death in March of 1934.
With a mad desire to fight for our country in the Civil War, he was rejected as too young but finally toward the end of the war was finally allowed to join Co. B, 135th Ill. Infantry for just six months. John David's father also served and he was the opposite, really almost too old, having been born in 1819, thus about 42 when he joined as soon as the war began and 46 at its conclusion. His father died 27 Nov 1890 and is buried in Kansas.
On December 4th in 1870, John married Mary Jane Hibbs and in a covered wagon three years later, they headed like so many of our folks to Kansas arriving in Lyon County on October 7th, settling on a farm near the town of Plymouth, but a few years later moving to Twin Mound and eventually to Emporia then to Americus where Mary Jane passed awawy December 8th in 1928, four days following their 58th wedding anniversary.
The Boltons had at least three daughter and three sons and at his death, 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He is buried (photo from findagrave but wish I had a REAL picture of him) in Malewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia, Lyon County, Kansas. Rest in Peace, dear sir !!
