Note from Julie Townsend: "The family home of Thomas & Golda (Staton) Bohannon. He died in Whitestown, but I'm not sure whether this home was there or somewhere else in Boone County. I would presume Whitestown. They had 7 children, so I'm not sure which two these are."

Shown are various exterior and interior photographs of the beautiful Boone County Courthouse in Lebanon, Indiana. Photographed and submitted by Boone County researchers; Jeany Garrison Roark and Roberta Lewis.

Jeany pointed out the very old-style, and seldom now seen, elevator located in the courthouse. And both ladies marveled at the beauty of the glass dome viewed from the lobby.

Present day

"Up from Rush County, John and Barbara (Hilligoss) Shockley bought their first land spanning Union and Eel River Townships starting in 1854 from pioneer Samuel Penry. My parents Loren T. and Susie Isley and grandparents George K. and Sarah Jane (Shockley) Isley’s farmhouse is 100 yards west of John Shockley’s. Sadly, US 74 now dissect the two farms where the freeway crosses the county line."

Can you identify this street?

• 9/29/2007 - Comment and current photos by Bill Sanders: "I believe that road is Meridian Street, and the large brick building near the end is the old Lebanon High School. [When I took the photo] I was probably a block or so further than the old picture. You can just make out some bricks through the trees on the right side.. that's the HS, now a retirement housing and fitness center." Bill goes on to say that the old high school had a newer addition added to it as a gym, and is visible in his photo. Some of the homes are now gone, but many of the original homes are still there, though some may have been changed through remodeling. The original Meridian Street and surrounding streets may have been altered also, per Bill.
