Decoration Day Services, May 1919
A huge wreath bearing the names of the 21 Putnam County boys who lost their lives in the World War will be given a military funeral on Friday as a feature of the Decoration Day exercises here. The huge wreath is now being made by florists and it will be born on a caisson and limber to the cemetery, where services will be held. The names of those who lost their lives during the war as compiled by the committee, are as follows:

HURST, Clyde – Cloverdale. Died at Burlington, VT.

McVEY, Ernest – Bainbridge. Died at Camp Dix, NJ. 1930 above article says Ernest McVAY - private born at Groveland, enlisted in Navy 1911 served 4 years, enlisted Aug 16, 1918 Co G 136th Infantry died of pneumonia Sept 30, 1918 Camp Dix, NJ.
MOORE, Harry R. – Died of Wounds July 22.
PATRICK, Arthur – Cloverdale. Died October 24, 1918. Pivate – born Morgan County, enlisted May 1918 Co G 125th Inf, 32nd Division, Killed In Action Oct 9, 1918
SANDERS, John (1930 article has middle name as Henry) – Greencastle. Died Feb 21, 1919. John Henry Sanders, private – born Wayne County, taxi driver, enlisted June 15, 1918 died of disease overseas Feb 21, 1919.
SCRIBNER,-- Russellville. Died Jan 26, 1919. – born Russellville, enlisted Aug. 6, 1918, 15th Co, Coast Artillery Corps. Accidentally killed while cleaning his gun at Breat (?), France, Jan 29, 1919. Source: Greencastle Herald 19 December 1921 p 3 – Carl Scribner, son of Mr. NS Scribner of Russellville, killed in action in France Jan 1919 arrived in New York port Sunday and will be brought home for burial. This will be a military funeral.
SNYDER, (Sgt) Perry B – Died of Wounds July 19, 1918.
THOMAS, Albert – Greencastle. Died Oct 24, 1918. (1930 article above lists this for him -- Elbert Thomas, private – born in Putnam County, farmer enlisted August 5, 1917, Co F 101 Inf., 25th Div, Killed In Action Oct 25, 1918 at Argonne Forest.
TIMMONS, Garney. Died of injuries in motor truck accident. -1930 above article had this to say and Barney would seem correct -- Barnie Timmons, master eng, US 1913, in California sent to Panama Canal sent to France with Co. F, 30th Engineers, Feb 14, 1919 from accident.
The procession to the cemetery will leave the square at 1:30 o’clock. All soldiers of the Spanish-American and World War are invited to join with the GAR members in this, Greencastle’s first memorial service to the heroes of three wars. Hon. Matt J. Murphy, representing the World War veterans will make a short address at the cemetery.
