John Henry & Flora (Reynolds) Todd

Today, on Friday, the 6th of February, in the Year of Our Lord (fancy words, huh? 2010, this portrait, is now 103 years old! Historians have been asking me, for the last three years, to share this portrait. This month of February also marks the one-year mark of when we bought this IMac computer with a scanner, etc., so now everyone can finally see this historically-valuable portrait! I have my boyfriend of 28 years, Curtis Clyde Pigneguy, to thank for these wonderful purchases. Thanks, Curt!

John Henry and Flora Todd are of special interest to the Primitive Baptist historians, as well as the historians of Cass County, Montgomery County, and Lawrence County, all in Indiana. Also of interest to the peoples of the various cemeteries, such as Mount Hope Cemetery in Logansport, Cass County, Indiana, Paint Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near the little town of Camden, Carroll County, Indiana and the old Gilgal Cemetery in Lawrence County, Indiana. Also, this is for the libraries of Crawfordsville and Logansport, as well as for relatives, friends, and other interested parties. I haven't got all of the historical answers, but this information should help quite a lot!

John Henry Todd and Flora Etta Reynolds Todd, my paternal grandparents, were married by the reknown Elder James H. Oliphant, on February 6, 1907 in Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana.

Their first child, Harvey Allen Todd, Senior was born March 18, 1908 in Waynetown, Montgomery County.

Child number two was Forrest Edward Todd, born January 22, 1910 in Linden, Montgomery County.

Child number three was Ralph Preston Todd, born January 24, 1912 in Elmdale, Mongomery County.

Child number four was Paul Raymond Todd, born June 26, 1915 in Crawfordsville, Montgomery County

Child number five was Francis Leverett Todd, born December 12, 1918 in Jamestown, Boone County, Indiana, next to Montgomery County.

And the sixth and last child was John Starnes Todd, born April 18, 1923 in Logansport, Cass County, Indiana.

John Henry was born on March 13, 1884 near Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana, a son of John Starnes Todd and his second wife, Mariah Jane Hawkins Todd. John Henry died on September 2, 1958 in Logansport, Cass County, Indiana in his home of many years on Rural Route 3, Highway 29 which turns into Burlington Avenue as you enter the south border of Logansport.

Flora Etta Reynolds Todd was born on August 20, 1888, a daughter of Edward (Edwin) L. and Olive Mary (Merritt) Reynolds, who are buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Logansport. Some of Flora and John's Todd offspring are at Mount Hope, too, such as Paul Raymond Todd, their son, and his wife, Ruth May Potts Todd, their daughter, Rosemary Todd, Paul Raymond Todd, Junior, and Nellie Jean Ross Todd, who married Thomas Norman Todd, one of Paul and Ruth's sons. Flora died of cancer on February 10, 1960 in the Irene Byron Sanitarium in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana. She and John Henry are buried next to their son, another John Starnes Todd, in Paint Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, about four miles east of the little town of Camden, Carroll County, Indiana. Also buried near them are one of John Henry's brothers, Noah Preston Todd and his wife, Julia Todd. Julia was sometimes called "Julie." The younger John Starnes Todd, known also as "Johnny," was my uncle. He was also a tailgunner, who was shot down over the Netherlands in World War ll. John Henry was a son of John Starnes Todd and Mariah Jane Hawkins Todd, who are buried in Gilgal Cemetery in Lawrence County, Indiana. John Starnes Todd was a son of Thomas Todd and Sallie Helton Todd (Heltonville.) They are also buried in Gilgal Cemetery. Thomas Todd was a son of George Todd and Sarah Brooks Todd. For TONS of history, including lots of dates, on the Todd's, etc., please click onto this:

Whatever history, dates, etc. that you don't see in the "Forrest Todd" link, let me know. Again, Forrest Todd was another son of John Henry and Flora. Also, I wanted to say that John and Flora's fifth son, Francis ("Frank") Leverett Todd and his wife, Evaleen Rosemary Murphy Todd of 1005 East Broadway, Logansport, Indiana, were my parents. Frank was a t.v. repairman for his brother and his wife, Ralph Preston Todd and Gladys Estella Burks Todd of "Todd's Appliances" in Logansport. All of this stuff is on the Forrest Todd link, above. My Dad, Frank Todd, was born on December 12, 1918 in Jamestown, Boone County, Indiana and died in his home in Logansport on October 7, 1984. Rosemary, my Mom, was born on July 3, 1924 in Kentland, Newton County, Indiana, a daughter of Thomas Joseph Murphy and Olive Lavena Steen Murphy and died on March 5, 1987 in Houston, Harris County, Texas. Frank and Rosemary are buried next to my sister, Christine ("Chris") Annette Todd in Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery, on U.S. Highway 24 East, a few miles east of Logansport. Chris was born in Saint Joseph's Hospital (was torn down) on High Street Road in Logansport on December 5, 1948. She died in Wheelersburg, Scioto County, Ohio on the estimated date (she died in her apt.) of Sunday, Saint Patrick's Day, March 17, 1991. I hope that all of this info...the Forrest Todd link, this portrait, and all else that I have written on this page, have done all of these people justice. May they all rest in total Peace.

The photo originally had a bubble glass, which was temporarily removed to omit glare.

thanks, Angie
