Lt. Col., Robert P. Youngman has received word from the war department that he has been honorable discharged from service in the 119th field artillery Jan 21. Mr. Youngman’s discharge is due to an illness that has lasted for the past several months. It will be with regret that Mr. Youngman’s friends will learn that he is forced to abandon military service for the present. His advance in rank from private to lt. colonel shows his sterling worth as a soldier and officer. Mr. Youngman’s first service began with the Spanish-American war, during which time he served as an artilleryman. From this he served in the Indiana National Guard, being advanced from private to the various officerships in the federal service until he became sick last summer. He was made major of the 2nd Indiana Infantry, from which he was advance to Lt. Col. Of the of the old Fourth Indiana, which was changed to the 139th Field Artillery, now stationed at Camp Shelby. Mr. Youngman was unable to accompany his battery to Camp Shelby from Fort Benjamin Harrison. He was brought home from the hospital at Ft. Ben last September and since that time has been unable to regain his health sufficiently to be out. – kbz
