TURNIPSEED, Thomas Boots

The man with the unusual name, Thomas Boots Turnipseed was born the 3rd day of the 3rd month in 1893, near Dalrington to Nathan C. Turnipseed and Martha E. Boots. His father was born and raised in Ohio, but met and fell in love with Martha here in Montgomery County. They were married 2 December 1879 by JW Cumberland. Thomas, at age 23, married Hallie Pearl Fisher at her parents' home (Wm and Martha Waugh Fisher) by Rev. W.M. Nicely on July 28, 1915.

So, he was a married man when he was the sixth to register for the mandated draft for WWI. He was a self-employed farmer in Sugar Creek, Township, had blue eyes, brown hair was of medium height and weight. Being a farmer was one of the occupations that might keep a person out of the service as the homefront needed food.

He lived in a baeutiful country home at the intersection of County Road 700 East and County Road 1000 North. He was youngest of five children. It is unlikely he went to the service since his tombstone does not indicate such. He is buried with his beloved wife at Greenlawn Cemetery, in Darlington, along with his parents and many other family members.
