Corporal Matthew S. Simms was born in Peoria, Ill. March 12, 1891, being the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Simms, now residing in Waveland. Mr. Simms has lived in this county practically all of his life, having lived at Waynetown for more than 17 years and at Waveland more than 7. After acquiring his education in the Montgomery County schools, he began the study of law and being made a member of his county bar, associated himself with the office of Robert W. Caldwell of this city. Beginning with the year 1918, Mr. Caldwell made him his firm partner. Upon his entry into the vocation, he at once assumed a leading position and remained true to his clients and the profession of his four years of practice until he was called to service of his country in the selective draft of June 24th. Simms, n ow in France is forging ahead having been made a corporal at Camp Sherman and is now acting as supply sergeant for the 309th Amm Train 84th division. Although in the service he writes back that his name will be found on the ticket of the November election for prosecutor subject to the Democratic party. He states if he is elected no matter where he be stations, he can certainly be fair to his home people and can assuredly prosecute the Huns. He thinks he will soon be given the opportunity.
