Mrs. Tim Murphy of Linden has received word that Lieutenant Lewis Murphy was wounded in action on November 1, 1918. The message stated that he had been shot in the army (sic - arm?) by a machine gun bullet. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Murphy and enlisted in the marine corp October 25, 1916. He left for overseas service May 22, 1917. Lt. Murphy was born in Linden, Ind April 21, 1897, and has lived all his life in this county. He received his education at the Linden HS. He is a membr of the Catholic Church and K of C. order. He enlisted before the war was declared upon Germany and he was first stationed at Mare Island, California. He was later transferred to Oregon and then to Virginia and from there overseas. Nothing further regarding the young man's condition was available. -- kbz
