CARL FREDERICK MAXWELL

One of the large family of Maxwells in the Darlington, Indiana area, Carl Frederick "Fred" was born Halloween day in 1898. He was the 5th child of 11 born to Minnie Sofia Steffler (a German immigrant) and Caswell Alexander Maxwell. He was just 19 when he registered. He was a farmer, working for his father.

Fred died doing the job he loved. He hit a hole in the field with his tractor while he was working on a drainage ditch. The tractor landed on top of him, killing him instantly; however, he laid there for almost two days before he was found. This was on his farm. RR #6, in Boone County near Lebanon on April 22, 1965. He married Margaret Viola Doyle and had Floyd Eugene; Kenneth Dale; Mabel Louise; Dora Minnie; Paul Edwin and Carl Frederick. He and Margaret are buried in Lebanon.
