FITZWATER, William Harrison

WILLIAM HARRISON FITZWATER

William Fitzwater was the fifth to sign-up on Draft Day June 5, 1917. He was registered by William H. Bundy in Sugar Creek Township, Montgomery County, Indiana. Born in Nicholas County, West Virginia, on the last day of July in 1889. Listed as "self-employed" he was employed at the George Woods Farm. Medium in height and weight, he had gray eyes and a full set of black hair. On his WWII draft registration, he is listed as being 5'7 1/2" tall and weighing 160#. This time his eyes are listed as brown and his hair gray, with dark complexion.

From his registration, he went on to join the Navy during WWI where at the end of his service, he met and married Charlotte Bearkley. He, along with many family members are buried at Mace K of P Cemetery.

He grew-up the oldest of a large family (12) born to Thomas Newton and Mary Margaret Bales. Although a farmer, he spent most of his years employed by Donnelley's.
