Chadwick, Archie - survivor

Word has been received here announcing that Ensign Archie B. Chadwick, son of Mrs. Eli Chadwick of this city was one of the few survivors of the steamship Ophir which caught fire and was completely destroyed on its way to Europe. The information states he landed safely at Gibraltar. He is now on his way back home the telegram which was received from Washington states. Ensign Chadwick was born in this city May 24, 1894 and has lived here all his life. He enlisted in the United States Navy April 2, 1918. He was first stationed in New York. The Ophir left an Atlantic port October 15 enroute to Europe. He is a graduate of Crawfordsville HS. - kz
