Ruby Clair Barnes was born July 1, 1890, on a farm east of Ladoga. He was the eldest of five children of Mr. and Mrs. T.B. Barnes. At the time of his death he was 28 years, 2months and 4 days old. During his early childhood his parents moved to another farm situated about 2 1/2 miles southwest of Ladoga and it was here that the remainder of his life was spent. On Sept 11, 1917, Ruby was united in marriage to Alice Leah Warren. On May 28, 1918, Ruby was called to the colors and was stationed at Camp Zachary Taylor. From there he was transferred on June 19, to Camp Beauregard, LA and remained there until called for overseas duty august 3. He had been in France only 15 days at the time of his death, which was due to pneumonia fever. He was buried in Issoudun, France, Grave 69 in cemetery 32, 3rd Aviation Instruction Center. It is a beautiful spot and he is buried alongside several officers of the aviation service. Ruby had just reached manhood and the time when life seemed the sweetest, when God called him Sept 4 at 10:58 p.m. He was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. But he had finished his duty here on earth and was ready to go to that great land from which noman returneth. He never complained, but nobly gave up all his happiness for his country that this nation might endure. Greater love hath no man that this for he lay down his life for another. He made sunshine wherever he went. Ruby has lived a Christian life and there was no reason why he should fear to go into the great beyond . Only the days to come, and the love of Him whose will we cannot lways understand can lessen the load of grief of those who knew him but in all our grief we have not forgotten to be proud of our loved one - proud that he so nobly made the supreme sacrifice for so great a cause. His memory will live in the hearts of the people for years to come as an excellent type of manhood. We should not wish our loved one back, but should liveon so that someday we may see him. Ruby is not in France, but his soul has returned to its maker. In the long years to come, may God help us to remember that he who loseth his life shall save it, ye, wave to immortality by dying ito defend an immortal ideea. - kbz
