Norman R. Blackwell of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, February 17, 1999, at his residence. Born on November 26, 1931, in Oolitic, IN, he was the son of William I. and Ethel M. (Henderson) Blackwell. He married Anna M. Anderson on March 25, 1950, and she survives. Also surviving are four daughters: Jane Presslar, Susan Sowders, Robin Silvers, and Kim Greer, all of Bedford, IN; three sons: William R. (Willie) at home, William Russell and Michael, both of Bedford, IN; one brother, Burl Wayne Blackwell of Oolitic, IN; two sisters, Lola May Davers of Brownstown, IN, and Janice Roberts of Bedford, IN; one half-brother, Garland Applegate of California; fifteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela Blackwell in 1994; his parents; two brothers, Oscar and Morris Blackwell; five sisters, Lois Mowery, Jean Applegate, Lillian Parmalee, Mabel Samuelson, and Marie Blackwell; and one grandchild. He was a carpenter and a member of the Carpenters Union of Bloomington. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U.S. Army. he was a member of the VFW of Oolitic. He was of Protestant faith. Services for Norman Blackwell will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Gary Cornwell officiating. Burial will follow in Lowder Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33 of Bedford. Friends may call from 12 noon to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. until the service time of Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. TIMES MAIL 1999
