MARTINSVILLE - Betty Jeanette (McMillan) East, 72, of Martinsville, formerly of Springville and Harrodsburg, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis following an illness of five-years duration. Born February 1, 1931, in Springville, she was the daughter of Benton and Geneva (Carter) McMillan. She married James L. East on December 16, 1949, and he survives. A graduate of Oolitic High School with the class of 1949, she had lived in Morgan County since 1956. She was a homemaker and a member of Zion Baptist Fellowship Church of Eminence. She enjoyed her grandchildren and for many years especially enjoyed sending cards and greetings to shut-ins. Survivors include her husband, James L. East of Martinsville; one son, Gary L. East of Westport; one daughter, Regenia D. Parks of Floyds Knobs; two brothers, Wendell and Gerald McMillan, both of Springville; one sister, Georgia Hacker of Somerset, Ky.; four grandchildren, Randall and Nathan East, Brandon Parks and Tammy Burton; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, at Neal & Summers Mortuary in Martinsville with the Rev. Kevin DeAngelo officiating. Burial will be in Lowder Cemetery in Springville. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the mortuary.
