Quirk, Griffith - Grace 50th anniv

Newtown—In observance of their 50th wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. H. Griffith Quirk will be honored by their children at open house from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, March 18, in the Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Quirk, the former Miss Grace McKinney, is a graduate of Northwestern University and taught music for three years in the American School in Kuling, China. She also taught for several years in public schools, including Richland Township. She was also a private music teacher for several years.
She met her future husband on the S. S. Pyrrhus on which he was an officer as she was returning home from China via Shanghai t London. He is a native of Dublin, Ireland. He entered the British Merchant Marine at the age of 15 and served for 15 years, some of which were on a sailing ship. At the time of his separation from the Merchant Marines he held a Master mariner’s degree.
They were married March 17, 1923 at the home of her late parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McKinney. After residing on the farm for 30 years they moved into Newtown. Mr. Quirk served as Auditor of Fountain County from 1957-65. At present he is a member of the Fountain County Council. Both are past elders in the Newtown Presbyterian Church. A brother of Mr. Quirk, Gerald, resides in Ireland.
Their children are Hugh G. Quirk, Chicago; Robert Quirk, rural Wingate, and Mrs. Bill (Patricia) Rivers, greenwood. There are six grandchildren.
There are several persons living who were present at the wedding. Two are Mrs. Ethel Conard, Cumberland, who served as attendant for Mrs. Quirk, and Mrs. Isabella (Kerr) Wilson, Conyngham, Pa., who played a violin solo.
