B.E. Page - loses wheat in Clover Leaf Wreck

Source: New Richmond Record, Montgomery County, Indiana 23 July 1914

A broken flange under one of the cars near the head end of the eastbound local freight caused a considerable wreck at about noon Saturday at a point a mile and a half east of Wingate. Five cars went off the track and were badly smashed up, including a car of wheat, a car of brick, a car of gravel and two empties. The car of wheat belonged to B.E. Page of Mellott. Three hoboes were in one of the empty box cars and while it was quite miraculous they were not all killed, they escaped with minor bruises. A fourth hobo who rode in another part of the train escaped injury. The wreck train and crew came from Frankfort and had the wreck cleared late that evening. The afternoon passenger trains were detoured over the Big Four and Monon from Veedersburg to Linden by way of Crawfordsville. New Richmond because of the wreck had no mail from Saturday morning until Monday morning.
