Club Boy Writes – Stephen Moffett, wrote the following
letter to the American Gurnsey Cattle Club who appreciated it so much that they
published the following, taken from the Guernsey Breeders’ Journal – “This
Hoosier boy is going to show a young bull out of his club cow at the fairs this
fall. Hope Flossie has a fine heifer for you next time, Steve!” … I was very glad to receive your letter
yesterday because I lost my blank to fill out to sign up and join the big club.
I think it will be a big success. My cow is doing fine. I have been in the club
two years. She is nice and fat. She has had one calf; it was a bull. He is a
very nice one, too and he is growing like a week. We had his horns clipped off
about a week ago. He was a year old the 12th day of September. I
have been working on my cow and calf for two months, getting them ready for the
Covington fair next fall. Enclosed is my application blank all filled out for
membership in The American Guernsey Junior Club. I am hoping to help you all
that I can, and I hope the whole thing will be a success. We are milking nine
cows now, but Flossie, my club cow is not in milk yet. She will be in about 4
months. We had disease among our cows that kept her from having another calf.
Again wishing you success. Stephen Moffett, Yeddo, Indiana.” - kbz
