Cates – a young Kingman couple parked on a rural Fountain County road fought off an attacker Tuesday night but not before the attacker stabbed one of them and cut the other.  Lawrence W. Kinneer, 22 of Rt 2 was listed in satisfactory condition this morning at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Danville, Ill with a stab wound in the chest. The girls in the car, 15-year-old Tina K. Walls also of Rt 3, received a head cut in the struggle and was treated and released last night from Lakeview Hospital at Danville.  State police said the couple was parked on a road two miles southwest of Cates at 10 p.m. when their attacker broke a passenger window out of the car and began struggling with Kinneer.  The attacker’s weapon was a knife equipped with a 3 ½” blade, police said.  Police speculated this morning that flying glass may have injured Walls. The attacker fled after the brief struggle. Police said they are investigating the incident on the assumption that jealousy was the attacker’s motive.  A police spokesman said the department’s report did not say whether the attacker was a man or woman.  Cates is in southwestern Fountain County.
