BOWMAN, Elliott - odd sickness

Source: Crawfordsville Review 25 April 1891 p 4

Dr. JN Talbott, of Alamo was in the city Wednesday and reported a very peculiar case which he has under his charge. Elliott Bowman, a young man living near Wallace, was attacked with grip some three weeks ago and only recovered after a long and severe struggle.  On arising from his sick bed he summoned the family about him and told them that while he had no wish to die yet he felt an irresistible and unaccountable desire to cut his throat and he earnestly cautioned the family to watch him closely and to keep from his sight all knives, razors and cutlery. The young man is perfectly rational on all points except this unnatural desire which he cannot explain, but talks of constantly. He is survived with a constant companion who watches his every movement.
