Pioneers Ambrose Burkhart (ca. 1812-1908) and Anna (Bragg) Burkhart (1814-1904) pose in front of their frame home at 300 Union Street (Old State Road 67) in Paragon, Morgan County, circa 1890s. The couple had 13 children. Ambrose's obituary states that he helped build the old canal and was a flatboat man, making several trips to New Orleans and returning on foot. He was born in Indiana and died at age 97.
