Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Emmert, of near New Ross, have received word from their son, Pfc. Thomas E. Emmert, Jr. of the US Marins saying he is in a naval hospital in Hawaii. The letter stated he was wounded in the left shoulder on July 27, while fighting on the island of Guam. He had been in battle 7 days before being wounded. Mr. and Mrs. Emmert have also received word from Mrs. Emmert's brother, Lester F. Wright, fireman, 3rd class of the Seabees, stationed in Pearl Harbor stating he had been to see Pfc Emmert in the hospital and that he was coming along fine, although suffering from nervousness and shock. Pfc Emmert joined the Marines June 3, 1943. After training at San Diego, Calif he was sent overseas in Jan 1944. He first landed at New Guinea and for awhile he was in a rest camp at Guadalcanal before being sent to Guam. Pfc. Emmert was graduated in 1943 from the New Ross HS.
