BAKER, Edgar Gates Stanley -- Born in Petone, Illinois 6-7-1909 to Walter and Hallie (Gates) Baker. He was a graduate of DePau; and the University of Chicago, plus lots of work at other colleges. Married #1 Julie Chapman #2 Loretta Butt. He and Julia had one daughter, Ruth Ann (more?). He passed away at 8:12 p.m. in Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville. He was a Wabash College first a couple of different times, but imagine he entered from Palo Alto, California where he was teaching in 1940. IF he registered from Montgomery County (teaching in 1935, 36 at least at Wabash) then let me know-- well, thought he was buried here, now I can't find him on findagrave. Military from: 28 Aug 1942 - 25 October 1945.

(love you, pop) -- Dad was born in Universal, Indiana 26 Aug 1920 to Italian immigrants but he loved America like no one else. A graduate of Clinton HS, he was then at the Shades in Montgomery County for service in the CCC where he learned much about medicine. From there on, he joined the service, enlisting at Ft. Benjamin Harrison 14 August 1942 from Vermillion County. His enlistment papers show he was 69" tall and weighed 134 pounds (except when he was in the thrust of the fighting and went down to 121, he weighed 134 pounds all his life. He was a "carpenter's apprentice," but with his training, they put him in the medical corps where he served under Dr. Wendal Weller, who would eventually end-up as his daughter's (me) ENT specialist - boy, were they thrilled to see each other. For some time, he also served as an office fella, typing with the hung/peck system and driving an officer around. In African, Italy and all over, he saw much he wanted to forget, as many did, serving 'til the end of the war. One story I want to say here for posterity. Dad went over on a boat with 366 medic personnel; he was one of the six to return. Also, his mother never believed he'd return and as he sent money home, she used it for his sister's education. That was sad but he also understand. Overall, he was a funny, friendly, helpful, wonderful pop, not perfect but I was a lucky gal to have him. He was a rural mail carrier for 3 decades before a wreck retired him and a carpet layer for about the same time - one of the best in the state, at that. He climbed up from a private to a sgt. in the 151st Evac Hospital unit. He arrived home Christmas day 1945 and was doing to hitch a ride from Ft. Ben to home, and the Clinton bus driver recognized him and took him home free. Buried in Calvary Cemetery next to mom, Kate Smith Bazzani. Gosh, I miss you, Fred Bazzani -- Love you, Dad !!

Married #2 Judy Wolfe 18 Feb 1978 in Peru, Miami County.

CALL, Robert E. - I need to check his obituary but the index on the Crawfordsville District Public library (9 Feb 1992) says he was cremated and was a WWII Veteran. His social security death lists him born (place?) 6 March 1920 he passed away 7 March 1992 at Alamo. Odd the library has it indexed 9 Feb of that year. Call was in the US Army (315903024) from 10 Nov 1939 when he enlisted to his release 23 June 1945. -- not real sure where to put him
