The Mellott Hustler is authority for the bit of news that Wingate will try the novelty of a ‘‘long felt want” known as a paper. A. J. Royalty has purchased an outfit and some time next month will begin enlightening the citizens of that town. Mr. Royalty has long had his dream of being an editor but until now it has been afar off. “Jack” is a hustler and the recent failures in that neck o’ the woods does not scare him. Here’s success to the new born.

From a lengthy article on Mellott proper
The Rev. Mr. White built the present Richland Press Building, one block west of Main Street. After the completion of the new building, the paper became a weekly edition. The Rev. Mr. White was in the newspaper business in Fountain County for many years. He was employed by the Attica Ledger-Trib for 23 years. At the present time he is also editing a weekly paper in Attica, called the Attica Oracle.
The first newspaper edited in Mellott was the Mellott Hustler in 1898. This, too, was a weekly newspaper and housed in the Old Messmore Block. The editor was Alfred Parker. Stephen A. Wade, a Mellott resident helped in the newspaper office when he was a boy. He states he assisted in the handrolling of the press.
