Higbee Family Reunion

Unknown Boone County Newspaper
Circa 1910-1913

HIGBEE FAMILY MET AT ELIZAVILLE ON LAST SUNDAY

The Higbee family celebrated their annual reunion at the residence of Egbert Higbee, of Elizaville, Sunday. There were forty-four representing fifteen families. A large number of well filled baskets, containing the best the country affords, provided a sumptuous dinner.

After dinner, a literary program was rendered. A report of last year's reunion was submitted and approved. Addresses were made by the three oldest members, each passed or almost an octogenarian --- John Higbee of Nebraska: Egbert Higbee of this county and Mrs. Dr. Mullin(nee Higbee) of Iowa.

An historical sketch of the family was prepared and read by Mrs. Egbert Higbee. A sweet song was rendered by Ione Lanham, of Sheridan, A fine recitation by Mabel Higbee of Big Spring. Charming recitations by Noel Higbee, of Big Spring and by Donald and Margaret Higbee of Lebanon.

Afterward the company repaired to the lawn, where various pictures of the company were taken by Osa Higbee, a photographer at Big Spring. After this the company separated to meet again another year.

Note: "The following is from a newspaper clipping which has been passed down to me. The name of the newspaper and the date are unknown. The clipping would have been sent to my great-grandmother, Ellen Higbee Perkins, who was living in Colorado. Mabel Higbee, mentioned in the article, was married in August 1913 so the year of the reunion would not have been later than that."
