A. C. Gibson
A. C. GIBSON was born in Jamestown, December 3, 1855.
He was present at the time but has no recollection as to
what occurred for sometime after the event. But as soon as
he was able to go on two legs about the first thing he did
was to run away from home and he kept this up for nearly
forty years running west to Utah territory, thence all over
the Pacific coast into the gold mines of Idaho, Nevada,
Montana, Washington territory, Oregon and California and
south to Tennessee and Georgia and Alabama, southwest to
Kansas and the Indian Territory and northwest to Minnesota
and North Dakota and finally landing in the little village
of Chicago, Illinois where he was employed in the freight
office of the Chicago & Alton railroad. Leaving the last
named town he came back and located in the city of Jamestown
where he began his present career five years ago. About all
the religion he has consists of paying his honest debts just
when he agrees to and not the day or week thereafter, and
never turning his back on a man who says he is broke or
hungry; and giving sixteen ounces to the pound and one
hundred cents worth for the dollar. Politically he leans to
the republican party but no party has a brass band around
his neck or owns him. No one but himself is allowed to fix
his ticket. Come to his store and he will tell you the rest.
