Advance Fire

Jamestown Press
Jamestown, [Boone County] Indiana
Friday, 27 September 1901, page 4

Grant SMITH, who has a restaurant in Advance, was burned out Monday night. He and his family lived back of the restaurant and they were awakened about one o'clock by cries of the people. They had scarcely left the house when the roof fell in. Only a few things were saved and one of Mrs. SMITH's hands was burned badly. There was $500 insurance on the property. As soon as they can leave they will come here to stay with his parents, Jesse SMITH and wife, until something further can be done. There had been no fire in the building and it is thought that it was purposely set on fire. It was also thought the family was under the influence of chloroform as they were so hard to awaken.
