Woodson Mahan
Woodson Mahan, b. 10 Nov 1828, d. 23 Nov 1899. His parents
were John Mahan Jr. and Nancy Woodson. They were married, 8
June 1813 in Mercer Co., KY and moved to New Winchester,
Hendricks Co., IN about 1833. Woodson was born near
Danville, Boyle, Co., KY and died near Thorntown, Boone Co.,
IN. He farmed 200 acres of land adjacent to the Old Bethel /
Precinct Cemetery where he and wife Cordelia Cumings Mahan
are buried. They were married in Boone Co., IN, 21 Aug 1851
and had 10 children. His obituary says he dealt in fast
horses. His mother Nancy, daughter of Jacob Woodson is
listed on pg. 160 of the book, “The Woodson's and their
Connections” by Henry Morton Woodson, 1915. Nancy’s
lineage goes back to Dr. John Woodson a surgeon on the ship
George that came to Fleur de Hundred, Virginia in
1619. His grandfather John Mahan Sr. married Sara Clark, 29
Jan 1786 in Lincoln Co., KY. John Sr. may have been an
associate of James Harrod the founder of Harrodsburg in
Mercer, Co., KY, per the Draper papers and land records.
Woodson’s grandmother Sara was the daughter of Francis
Clark, the first Methodist minister of Kentucky.
