Samuel Brown & Family
Archibald Brown, born 1769 Connaught, Ireland was living in
South Carolina 1790-1800. Then he was living in Boone and
Nicholas County, Kentucky until [his] death in 1865. His
son, Samuel Brown, was born in Nicholas County, Kentucky on
March 6, 1813. He married Nancy Caldwell on May 9, 1835.
They had eight children in Kentucky before moving to
Indiana. They were Robert W., born 1834, John Alexander,
born 1838 (my great grandparent [who] died in Kansas,)
Sarah, born 1841, Lavin, born 1842, James M., born 1845,
Nancy, born 1847, Columbus O., born 1847, Alvin, born 1849.
Then it looks like they moved to Clinton Township, Boone
County, Indiana in 1851 or 1852. They had five more children
there. Martha, born 1852, Mary, born 1854, Margaret E., born
1856, Maria, born 1858, Della, born 1859. I got all this
from census and family charts. It looks like Nancy Margaret
(Caldwell) Brown died in Clinton Township in 1888 at the age
of 72. Samuel is found on the 1860, 1870, and 1880 census in
Clinton Township, Boone County, Indiana. I found him on the
1900 census living with his daughter, Sarah Erganbright, in
Eel River Township, Hendricks County, Indiana. The date I
have from my Grandmother's chart is November 19, 1900 for
his death. It may be that he is buried in Hendricks County
and not Boone. I am not sure how they would have done it
back then. If they would have taken him [to be buried] next
to his wife. I am sure that she would be buried in Clinton
Township. I think their farm was just west of Elizaville
from the 1878 plat book from this site [Boone County
Genealogy, INGenWeb].
I descend from Archibald Brown as such: Archibald Brown >
Samuel Brown > John Alexander Brown > Alvin W. Brown > Lee
J. Brown > Elvin L. Brown.
Note from County Coordinator, T. Stover: Samuel and
Nancy Brown were both found buried in Hopewell Cemetery,
Clinton Township, Boone County, Indiana: Samuel Brown, born
1813, died 1900; Nancy M. Brown born 1816, died 1888, wife
of Samuel. Source: "Cemeteries of Boone County,
Indiana, Vol I," by Rosemary Peterman and Marilyn
Walker, 1990.
