There are three known Revoluntionary War veterans who are believed to have settled in Adams County and died here:
Thomas Archbold, James Ball and George Emory. There may have been others.

THOMAS ARCHBOLD
born: 1755 Crooked Billet, Chester, Pennsylvania
died: 17 Mar 1837, Decatur, Adams, Indiana
buried: Reynolds Cemetery, Root Township, Adams, Indiana (has tombstone photos)
service: enlisted in July, 1777; served five months as a private under Samuel Shannon
enlisted in 1778; served eight months as a private under Shannon and two months under Bell in Pennsylvania
wounded in the Battle of Brandywine
married: 1) Mary Kent in 1780 in Chester, PA., daughter of Absalom Kent and Ann Nancy. She was born 1760 in Chester Co., PA and died Sept. 30, 1826 in Tuscarawas Co., Ohio.
children: Patrick, Sarah Ann, Sabertha, Rebecca, Martha, William, and Thomas
2) Mary Ligett on 1/5/1826 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio


JAMES BALL
born: 1751 in lower Maryland
died: May 8, 1834 in Root Township, Adams, Indiana
buried: probably Reynolds Cemetery, Root Township, Adams, Indiana (no stone found)
service: enlisted 8/1/1776 in Capt. Philip Maroney's Co., Col. Shryock's Maryland Regt.
enlisted 1877 as sergeant in Capt. Ralph Hilliary's Co., Col Baker Johnson's Regt.
two months of guarding prisoners and two more months guarding the magazine in Frederickstown
married: Rachel Hinton (1749-1823) on 2/20/1779 in Frederick County, Maryland


GEORGE EMORY
born: 2 October 1752 in Frederick Co, Virginia
died: 3 July 1841 in Adams Co, Indiana
buried: Loofburrow Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Adams, Indiana (has tombstone photo)
service: enlisted April, 1777 as quartermaster in Col. Andrew Russell's Regt.
wintered at Valley Forge
enlisted 1780 as quartermaster in Capt. Thomas Respass Co
engaged in housing soldiers until the troops were disbanded in 1783
married:
children: Elizabeth Lownes, Margaret Page, Olivia Shepherd, Stephen, Thomas, Celina Kingrey, and Andrews J
