GRANVILLE CEMETERY
Wayne Township
Tippecanoe County, Indiana





Granville Cemetery is located in Wayne Township on County Road 75S 1/4 mile east of County Road 700W.  It was once a part of the Wea Plains and original prairie grass and flowers still grow there undisturbed.  These plants are preserved and protected by the Indiana Dept. of Natural Resources.  They are occasionally burned off, which exposes the tombstones to great damage, and many are showing the effects of this practice.  In an effort to preserved the information from the tombstones, photographs were taken of each tombstone, footstone, and even broken stones, in the Spring of 2002, shortly after the burning of these plants.  You will find links to some of those tombstone photos below.  Please feel free to copy and save your ancestor's tombstone photo - they are meant to be shared!

         From the historical marker located at the cemetery:
             Granville Cemetery was once part of the great Wea Plains and still contains many species
              of the original prairie vegetation.  This is one of the last remnants of the Indiana  prairies
              that covered much of Tippecanoe County.  It is preserved and managed as a memorial to
              the Indians and early settlers to whom these grasses and flowers were once familiar.
